For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

1 Corinthians 2:16 NKJV

Why should I have the Mind of Christ?

Having the Mind of Christ is to be spiritually minded. Romans 8:6 says, For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

To understand spiritual things, I must be spiritually minded and the Holy Spirit helps me to interpret what I read and helps me better understand what God is doing.

When I walk into a store and the automatic door opens. There’s a device above the door that shines an infrared light down and when I break the beam, it triggers the door to open. I can’t see that beam, but if I put on special glasses, I would be able to see it.

A good analogy would be how the microscope opened a whole new world. The microscopic world was always there, but there was no way to see it. The microscope helps me to see it, but without being scientifically minded, I can’t make sense of what I’m seeing. I am not scientifically minded, so I need someone who is in order to help me understand what I see.

The spiritual world is always there, but without the Holy Spirit and being spiritually minded, I don’t see it. Having the Mind of Christ is like putting on spiritual glasses and the Holy Spirit helps me to understand what I’m seeing.

It takes time

Often, over time, two people who have been lifelong friends, seem to know just how the other one thinks, what they like and don’t like. Similarly, a couple who have been married for over fifty years, just know deep inside how the other will respond to things or what they’ll say.

I develop the same thing with God when I spend time in prayer, reading my Bible, and meeting with other believers. Over time, I gain more and more understanding of God and spiritual things.

You won’t always see or understand

Having the Mind of Christ doesn’t always mean you’ll see or understand what’s going on. That’s where faith comes. I follow Him even though I don’t understand where He’s leading but the Holy Spirit is there guiding me and helping me know that where He leads, I am to follow.

Let’s commit to having the Mind of Christ.
